Communications Disrupted

All overland communications between Nairobi and Kenya’s principal port, Mombasa, were again severed or interrupted today as further heavy rains lashed flood-de-vastated Kenya, Reuter reported. The railway link between the two cities, restored on Wednesday night, was cut for a second time at the same point, half-way between Nairobi and the coast. Flood waters had washed sway an abutment supporting the bridge built last week to replace that swept away by the rising waters. The new bridge still was intact, but at the mercy of the waters. Hie Associated Press reported from Brazzaville, Congo Republic, that the Government announced today the overflowing Congo river had isolated about 2000 people in the Mossaka region of the Congo Republic. Some had been trapped on high ground for as long as five days. Tens of thousands of acres of land were reported flooded. The Government said that supplies were being parachuted to those cut off. Seville Flooded The Associated Press reported that Seville, Spain’s fourth largest city, tonight fought its way out of rainswollen floods, which left at least two people dead and thousands homeless. Unofficial reports put the death toll at four. Most of the eastern section of Seville was inundated as rivers overflowed their banks and brought water in some low-lying areas to roof-top height. United States Air Force rescue units from the nearby Moron air base, and naval men from the United StatesSpanish naval base at Rota Joined in rescue operations and made emergency food supplies available for distribution by the Spanish Government.
