Dr. Hastings Banda, said today: "I would rather see the whole of Nyaqaland starve to death than accept charity from Welensky and the Federal Government," the Associated Press reported. He was referring to a decision of the Federal Governmet of Rhodesia and Nyssaland, headed by Sir Roy Welensky, to go ahead wi'h Nyasaland's Nkulu Falls hydro-electric scheme. TTie African nationalist leader told a press conference: "Nobody can build a thing In this country unless I sign the papers as Minister of Natural Resources. If t cannot build Nkulu Falls the way I want it. then I'll not let it be built at all."
