HIGHLAND PIPING SOCIETY

An Evening Of Reminiscences

The Highland Piping Society of Canterbury has issued a general invitation to veteran pipers to talk of their experiences at a meeting of the society on February 10. and the public are also invited to attend, the presiden' of the society (Mr E. J. C Hay) announced yesterday. “The •. society, although formed only last year, has 40 members and is forging ahead,” said Mr Hay. “The enthusiasm of its members and the success of its functions has proved that it has a place in the hearts of devotees of things Scottish. “At the meeting on February 10, we hope that a large number of old pipers will turn out to talk of their experiences *dn the board.* of fellow pipers against whom they have competed in earlier days, and probably something about judges, competent or otherwise. “Members of the society meet bi-monthly to enjoy music and each others’ company. It is an opportunity for the older members to exchange reminiscences and for the younger members to give an exposition of the art of playing. Juniors are encouraged to come along to play and to listen to the more advanced players. Christchurch is fortunate tn having a number of good lady pipers, and their contributions to the programmes are very much appreciated. “To those who are pipers and to those who do not play this instrument but enjoy the music, the society extends a very hearty welcome,” said Mr Hay.
