HOTEL SAFE THEFTS
Warning On Insurance
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. Nov. 27. Hotelkeepers would need to look to the security of the buildings or their rates of insurance would have to be increased, said Mr C. McL. Brown, president of the council of the New Zealand Underwriters’ Association, today. He was commenting on the recent epidemic of hotel safe burglaries in the Auckland district. In a telephone interview from Wellington, Mr Brown said: “Insurance rates must go up if this goes on. The hotels might not think so at the moment, but they must eventually pay for the losses.” During the last 14 weeks, nine hotels in the Auckland Province, five of them in Auckland city, have been robbed of safes containing nearly £7OOO.
