Ordeal Best Of Greyhound Handicap Field

Ordeal gave another brilliant display of trotting to win the Greyhound Handicap at Addington on Saturday. She showed phenomenal speed, particularly over the last half-mile, and at the finish was easing up with a lead of four lengths over her nearest rival. L Ordeal began safely, but M. Holmes took her very quietly over the first few furlongs to ensure she was properly balanced.

Ordeal improved gradually and at the six furlongs was about eighth. She was steadied a little leaving the straight to avoid being pushed three wide and tost a place or two. She was ninth at the half-mile, a conservative eight lengths from the' leaders.

Holmes then sent Ordeal after the pacemaker, Resistor, and she unwound a brilliant burst, being timed to trot her next quarter in an amazing 28 3-ssec. She went to the front with two and a half furtongs left and raced to the straight trotting easily ahead of Resistor, Our Own, Spinster Scott, Front Line, Coronet Lass, Dianthus Girl r and Au Fait Ordeal did not have to be asked for a serious effort over the final furlongs to win easing up by four lengths from Front Line, which gave a sound display of trotting considering it was his first attempt in the best company.
