FLOODING IN VIETNAM
Relief For Child Victims “On receiving an urgent appeal for help from the Vietnam Embassy in London, the Save the Children Fund has arranged for £3OOO to be sent immediately to the British Ambassador in Saigon for the relief of child victims,” says a cablegram from the overseas secretary of the fund. The cablegram has been sent to all branches and was read to the North Canterbury branch at its monthly meeting yesterday. The cable said: “500,000 Vietnamese are said to be affected by floods, and damage to crops has already amounted to £3O million.” The North Canterbury branch voted £lOO to be sent to the London headquarters for Vietnam relief if needed. If the urgent need was over by the time the money was received, it could be used in other countries, the branch president (Miss M. Havelaar) said. The Korean appeal was still open, she said.
