Light Horse Ring Events Contested
(From Our Own Reporter) TIMARU. Nov. 24. The Timaru Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s ninety-third annual show opened today at Smithfield in fine weather. Interest centred on light horse ring events, sheep dogs, dog trials in which some women supervised the yarding of sheep, shearing and wool-handling, wool competitions and the judging of seeds, produce and home Industry classes. Ring events will take place tomorrow and sheep, cattle, and pigs will be judged. The Levels Challenge Cup for seniors (12 to 15) in the competitions for ponies was won by Sharon Richardson, on Golden Fleece. The winner of the Levels Challenge Cup for junior riders (under 12) was Sally Wardell, riding Miss V. Nichols’s Lightning. In the riding competitions, Jennifer Livingston, on Redwings won the E. R. Tate Challenge Cup for the best pony and rider as a unit. Miss D. McLeod, on Sight, won the maiden hunter event and the F.E.I. jump. Highwayman, ridden by Miss A. Wright, was the winner of the light-weight hunter section, and Miss T. J. Topham won ttie heavy-weight hunter championship. Four teams took part in the shearing and wool-handling competition, s leaving a further 10 teams to compete tomorrow. The dog trials will be decided on the showing of finalists in toe ring. Championship awards were: Wool.—Champion fleece: J. A. Middleton. A special prize was awarded to D. Squire for most points in the section. The champion print in the amateur photographic competition was submitted by P. M. Gallagher.
