Clydesdales Steal Parade At Royal Show

(From Out Own Reporter)

AUCKLAND, Nov. 24. The Clydesdales stole the Royal Show grand parade at Auckland today. In full decorated harness with the hames and decorations on the winkers and bridles burnished and shining in the sunlight, the horses were yoked in gaily-painted waggons. Four horses drew a delivery waggon. Teams of three and two pulled other old vehicles. A feature of the parade was the presentation of championship ribbons to the cattle exhibitors by the Minister of Agriculture (Mr Hayman) who was accompanied by the president of the Royal Agricultural Society (Mr M. S. Rennie), the president of the Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Association and vice-president of the society (Mr H. C. Ellett) and the other vicepresident of the society (Mr J M. Chambers). The Clydesdale classes are being made a feature of the show and the 14 entries were well got up with their coats

glossy with careful grooming and white and blue ribbons braided attractively in their manes and tails. As well as their appearance in the ring for judging and the two grand parades, special parades of the Clydesdales are being staged in the evenings when there are big attendances to watch the F.E.I. horse jumping, wood chopping, shearing demonstrations and other attractions. Shearing demonstrations are drawing big crowds. Mr L. Ramsden, the British shearing champion, who is on a working holiday in New Zealand, is giving demonstrations of shearing the traditional English way and the high-speed Bowen method. The two methods are in marked contrast. In the Jersey cattle classes judged today, F. W. Hansen’s cow Lilac Grove Heidi from Rangiora, which won the cow championship in the last two Royal shows, was defeated by R. C. Carter, of Matangi, Waikato, who

won both the championship and reserve championship. Lilac Grove Heidi, however, won the class for the bestuddered cow, defeating both the champions. Mr Hansen's two entries won a first, two seconds and two thirds.
