TROTTING SAFE RETURN MAY WIN
Final Day Of Addington Meeting Safe Return, winner of the Kaikoura Cup last month, is selected to win the Harold Logan Handicap on the final day of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s New Zealand Cup meeting at Addington today. Safe Return, a half-brother by Secure to Teryman, has shown outstanding promise in the little racing he has had. He impresses as a potential major handicap winner and this race should provide him with a chance to take another step towards the better classes.
Wbipaway has had a win and three placings in his five starts this season. This speedy son of Whipster has more ability than most in the race and will only have to race up to his best form to be a threat to Safe Return. Antonius was a splendid second to Johnny Thunder at Forbury Park two starts ago and, at his only subsequent appearance, met trouble and was not a danger. Antonius is not always too reliable at the start, but if he begins cleanly and is allowed to make his own rules in front he will take catching. First Song has been a consistent place-getter this season and is overdue for a win. He seldom paces a bad
race and should take part in the finish. La Storm, Sarona, Stand In and Bobcat are others capable of adding interest to ths finish. The absence of Lookaway will rob the Smithson Handicap. the first leg of the double, of considerable interest. Sun Chief will be a dominating favourite for the race, and there will be strong support for Scottish Command, Teryman, Johnny Guitar and Guiseppe. Flying Note. Master Alan and Jay Ar form a likely trio for the second leg, the Churchill Handicap. Fine weather is forecast and the track will be hard and fast.
