Carlton Mill Traffic

Sir.—The traffic lanes at Carlton Mill bridge are not doing their intended function because of the inability of the traffic officers on point duty to use their “nous.” Early last week during the rush hour I was travelling along Park terrace and went into the inside lane at Carlton Mill bridge with the intention of turning into Harper avenue. However, I had to stop, as the officer at point duty was only letting one road through at a time. But surely, as cars come from Harper avenue those cars on the Inside lane in Park terrace should be allowed to turn. It would create no interference with other traffic and would stop the piling up of cars as far as Bishops court. I think that as traffic lanes are intended to ease congestion you should be permitted to turn. As they stand now they are no use at all.—Yours, etc., SHARBASHNovember 16, 1961. [The chairman of the traffic committee (Miss M. E. McLean), said: “To do what the correspondent requires would necessitate two lanes for west-bound traffic in Harper avenue. The possibility is being investigated.”]
