DUTCH CRUISE SHIPS
Auckland Visits To Cease ‘*The Press" Special Service AUCKLAND, November 23. The Dutch liners Oranje and Johan van Oldenbarnevelt will not now use Auckland as a regular port of call during their 1962 round-the-world sailings. The ships’ owners, the Nederland Line, have informed the Auckland Harbour Board that the decision was made for economy reasons. Mr E. Turner, chairman of the Harbour Board, said he had asked the company to reconsider its decision. The company has replied that to include Auckland in the intinerary would be to extend each voyage by two days. It added that the two ships would probably be regular visitors to Auckland during the summer cruise season. The Oranje usually makes one Christmas cruise and the Johan van Oldenbarnevelt several Tasman cruises each summer. The company said it would consider reinstating one or both services in 1963.
