PROMOTION OF TRADE
New Council’s Functions (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 23 A trade promotion council would be appointed by the Government early next year, the Minister of Overseas Trade (Mr Marshall) said today. "The council will not have more than 12 members.” hb said. “This means it will not be so large as to be unwieldly or so small as to be insufficiently representative. "Members, however, will be appointed not as representatives of any organisation, but an the grounds of their personal qualifications and experience in exporting and trading generally.” The council’s functions would be to advise the Minister of Overseas Trade and the Government on the measures required to assist ’urther development of export trade. The council’s functions would include: (1) The exploration of new ar potential markets, includng trade surveys and missions. (2) The co-ordination of promotional schemes, trade airs and publicity in both old ind new markets. <3) The improvement of acilities both within New Sealand and overseas which nay assist exporters. (4) The encouragement of tublic support for exporting ind understanding of export iroblems. (5) The expansion in exporting of manufactured toods and provision of export ncen fives.
