THANKSGIVING CELEBRATED
North American Club Dinner Thanksgiving Day was celebrated last evening by 60 members and prospective members of the North American Club at the Bedford Chambers. On arrival guests were welcomed by the club president (Mr W. A. Delaney) before cocktails. Consisting of the customary turkey with its various accompaniments, the dinner was served in true “family style,” one turkey being delivered to each table and carved by the presiding “host.” Also on the menu was lobster cocktail, creamed onions and salad, pumpkin pie or mince pie. New Zealand and other wines were served with the meal.
Table decorations prepared by the individual table hostesses featured bowls of roses and stocks in rich red, pink, cream, white, and blue tonings.
Place cards prepared by Mrs W. A. Ball were illustrated with flags of the two North American countries, the United States and Canada. Light pianoforte accompaniment was provided during the meal.
Before the dinner Grace was said by Dr. L. King. An address was later given to guests by Dr. L. L. Pownall. Toasts were drunk to the Queen and to the President of the United States. Hosts and hostesses for the evening were Mr and Mrs W A. Delaney, Mr and Mrs J. M Ott. Mr and Mrs W A. Ball. Mr and Mrs J. Burke, Dr. and Mrs L King, and Mr and Mrs M. Youse.
