TROTTING FLYING NOTE IN FORM

Addington Second Leg Tomorrow

Flying Note, which has finished second in his three starts so far at the meeting, should be rewarded with a win in the Churchill Handicap, the second leg of the double on the final day of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s cup meeting at Addington tomorrow.

Flying Note has been beaten by Sally Boy, Zenith and Master Alan in his three starts and with a little luck at least one of those defeats could have resulted in a win.

The Flying Song five-year-old appears to thrive on hal’d racing and he could have come through the earlier events at the meeting better than many of his rivals. He will form a popular combination with Sun Chief in the first leg, the Smithson Handicap.

Scottish Light paced a grand race to finish second to Cardigan Bay in the Final Handicap on the first day of the meeting, but he was disappointing last Saturday when he finished third to King Hal and Zenith over two miles. He bored badly most of the way and put little dash into his finish. He is a much better horse than that effort suggested and he could confirm that in tomorrow’s race. Master Alan has not really paced a bad race at the meeting and he showed gameness to shade Flying Note at the end of 10 furlongs last Saurday after giving him a good start from the straight entrance. Master Alan is not a big horse, but he has plenty of ability and courage. He is usually a most reliable beginner, which should assist him to make up his handicap of 12 yards without too much difficulty. Admit has shown grand form in the last few weeks and he was impressive when he won the Hayward Handicap last Saturday. He looks favourably placed on the front and the rise in class in this field should not be enough to stop him giving a good account of himself. Falsehood showed speed when he overcame a slow start to finish third to Master Alan and Flying Note last week. If he begins cleanly, he could be too speedy for most in the race. Jay Ar was a fair fifth over, two miles last week and lie should appreciate the shorter distance tomorrow. He looks a fit horse and is overdue for a Win. Likely Improver Queenson looks a likely improver. He has finished fourth in his two starts at the meeting. Those were his first appearances for some time and he should be a better horse this week. He appears to be racing much more generously now than he did last season and it will not surprise if he is prominent. Schnapps was a good fifth on the second day of the meeting and he could be returning to his best. Sentimental, a winner on the first day of the meeting.

a Massacre and Sextant could o also add interest to the finish, 1 but they will find Flying f Note hard to catch. Ordeal will be a shorty priced favourite for the a Greyhound Handicap, the a main race on the programme t for trotters. She has shown 1 brilliant speed in her races so i far at the meeting, but has t been inclined to pace in the - first few furlongs. If she begins cleanly and makes no ; lapses such as that which - resulted in her disqualificas tion after winning the New ; Zealand Trotting Free-for-all - last week, it is difficult to see j her beaten. t Au Fait, winner of the t Dominion Handicap on the r second day of the meeting, s was a little disappointing last > Saturday when she tired to t third in the free-for-all after > pacemaking. She is the backi marker on 48 yards, but should finish in the money I again. i Disappointing , ’ When has been one of the ’ most disappointing horses in 1 her class so far at the meet- , ing. She trotted her best race ■ when she finished a distant fifth in the free-for-all last , week. She looks reasonably , well placed on 12 yards and . could give a good account of > herself. Coronet Lass has plenty of ; stamina even though she might lack the brilliance of some of her rivals. She has “ finished third in two races at ' the meeting and as a result , she must be respected. Dianthus Girl failed last week after finishing second to Au Fait in the Dominion Handicap. She is always a prospect. i Reprimand will have sup--1 porters after his win last > week. That was his best t effort for a long time and it > might not be wise to overlook ; him. ; Our Own and Front Line > are two interesting new- [ comers to this class. Both ; have raced well at the meeting and from the front they i must be regarded as place i prospects. The others make little appeal, although Kennoway, i if near his best, would have , a chance. ,
