COWS SUFFER SHOCKS
Milking Shed Floor “Live” (N.Z. Press Association) N. PLYMOUTH, Nov. 15. Electric shocks suffered by cows in an Opunake cowshed are believed to have caused a drop in herd production of 11,0001 b butterfat in the last three years. This apparently resulted from the installation of an electric range in a nearby sharemilker's cottage, the Opunake Electric Power Board heard today. A long-service line supplied power to the dairy shed and a cottage, situated about 35 chains from a transformer, said the board’s engineer, Mr F. C. Stevenson. Apparently, some of the load currents from the electric range in the cottage were flowing back to the cowshed by way of earth pipes in the area. It was thought that the cows had been submitted to a small voltage in the milking shed when the electric range was switched on. The board indicated it would assume responsibility for remedying the position.
