Mr J. S Reid will represent the New Zealand Government at Tanganyika’s independence celebrations on December 9. Mr Reid is New Zealand Ambassador to Japan and High Commissionerdesignate to Canada.—<P_A.) The chairman of directors of the Commercial Union Assurance Company of London (Mr R. C. Brooks) arrived in Christchurch from Sydney yesterday for a two weeks' visit to New Zealand. Already Mr Brooks has visited Ceylon. Malaya. Singapore and Australia, and when he leaves the Dominion he will go to East and South Africa before returning to the United Kingdom. He is accompanied by the deputygeneral manager of the Commercial Union Assurance Company 'Mr R. P F. Smallwood). When Mr Smallwood leaves the Dominion he will go to Fiji and to the United States before meeting Mr Brooks again in London.
