Man Injured At Hydro Project
(HX. Press Association) HAMILTON, Novemebr IS. After a retirement of more than three hours, a jury in the Supreme Court at Hamilton awarded Israel Offenbach, aged 38. a fitter, of Mangakino, £lOl7 in a claim for £3500 general damages and £492 18s 6d special damages against the Crown. Offenbach was injured in an accident at the Waipapa hydro-electric project in July, 1959. He fell eight feet on to a spike when a steel rod he was climbing broke.
The defence was that there was no need for Offenbach to climb on the steel work when ladders were available. Mr Justice Leicester deferred entering judgment until he had heard legal argument.
