FORCE IN CONGO
Malayans Cut Off (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) LEOPOLDVILLE, Nov. 14. Seven hundred Congolese soldiers had surrounded United Nations Malayan troops at Kindu airport in the Congolese Kivu province, a United Nations spokesman said yesterday in Leopoldville. The Malayans’ water supply had been cut off, and the Congolese had captured some of their weapons. The Commander of the Congolese troops in the Kivu and Orientate Provinces (General Victor Lundula) left Leopoldville yesterday in a United Nations plane to investigate the situation.
He was accompanied by the Minister of the Interior (Mr Christophe Gbenye! six officers and senior Congolese defence ministers. The United Nations also announced yesterday that a large part of Northern Katanga was now in the hands of a Balubakat administration, loyal to the Central Government. The chief United Nations public information officer, Mr George Ivan Smith,.who returned from the region yesterday, said the administration controlled the towns of Albertville, Nyunzu, Manono and Kabalo. The vice-president of the Balubakat Party (Mr Mwamba Prosper Ilunga) had installed himself as the provisional District Commissioner in Albertville pending a permanent arrangement by the Central Government.
