Local Bodies To Help Towards a suggested local body contribution ot £lOOO a year, the City Council last evening agreed to contribute £654 a year to th* Society for the Prevention of Cruelty t” Animals.

Reporting on the suggested apportionment of the £lOOO on the mean between unim. proved rateable value and reputation, the finance cam. ntittee said that th* Heath, cote and Watmair! County Council* and the Lyttelton Borough Council had agreed k contribute the amount* suggested, £3O. £173 and £l3 respectively.

Th* Rlecarton Borough Council had atoo agreed to meet the suggested £3O, but recommendedthat the society limit the period at which it held animate at the home and that two local body representatives should be added to tbe society’s committee, with full voting riffhta. The HsteweU County Council was willing to contribute £lO, half th* amount suggested, th* committee said. The Psparua County Council had agreed to make the suggested contribution of £BO. but subject to the local bodies having representation on th* society; to having the right to review its grant Iran y*sr to year; and to all dog* held by the society being registered within 14 day* and hydatid fe«* being paid for them. The council agreed to eall a meeting of representatives ot all the local bodies to distuss details.
