Women's Softball RALLY BY KAIAPOI

Christchurch Extended After holding a comfortable lead to tiie sixth innings, Christchurch faced a batting barrage from an improving Kaiapoi team in the women’s senior softball championships on Saturday. Christchurch was forced to bat in two runs in its Last innings to win. Monowad A was not extended to beat Monowad B. and Hagley thrashed a depleted Teachers’ College side. Results:—, Christchurch 29, Kaiapoi 19. Monowai A 18. Monowai B 6. Hagley 34, Teachers’ College 9. • Christchurch v. Kaiapoi Good batting by M. Hopkins, F. Mcllwrick and J. Power started Kaiapoi off well to score two runs. However, Christchurch went ahead with long drives to the outfield by J. Hudson. J. Phillips. J. Hobbs, J. Innes, and K. McCormick. Kaiapoi was three up three down in the second, and strong batting by Phillips L Daily and Hobbs brought Christchurch another two runs. Kaiapoi’s J. Kimber achieved the only score, a home run on errors in the third. Christchurch replied, and with a long drive to right field H. Johnson crossed the homie plate for a homer. She was followed home by Hudson and Phillips on errors. Kaiapoi found the Christchurch team a little unsettled in the next, and with a good hit by M. Wright scored two runs. Christchurch, helped by a three-base hit by L. Parrish and a two-base hit by H. Johnson, scored three runs. A hit by J. Power and indifferent fielding saw Kaiapoi add three runs to its total, and Christchurch replied, Johnson bringing in three runs with a homer with two on “base. Erratic pitching and fielding enabled Kaiapoi to score two runs in the sixth, and Christchurch was held three up, three down. Kaiapoi opened its last training by eight runs, and helped by erratic pitching, unsteady fielding and good batting by F. Mcllwrick and a three-base hit by F. Hammer, saw nine runners cross the plate before a foolish steal ended the innings. Christchurch, trailing for the first time in the game saw its first batter out to a catch. Its next batter managed to get to first on an error. Parrish followed with a hit. and L. Hay forced Kaiapoi into errors with an infield drive to see two Christchurch runners cross the plate to take the game in an exciting finish. Kaiapoi’s J. Two runs came home for Monowai A on sacrifices in the third and Monowai B failed to score. Monowai A three up three down in the next saw two Monowai B cross the home plate on errors. Neither team scored in the next and Monowai A with some hard drives scored four runs. M. Hapuka with a homer on errors scored Monowai B's only run in reply.
