Women's Cricket HAT TRICK BY STEERE
Fine Bowling For St. Albans A hat trick by the veteran, H. Steere, for St. Albans 111 against Teachers’ College, was a feature of the Canterbury Women’s Cricket Association’s competitions on Saturday. Steere finished with four wickets for six and completed a fine double by making 60 not out. Other good batting performances were by P. Moore 84, J. Goddard 53 not out, 3. Stead 41 not out, J. Cockle 36 not out, P. Adair 31 and A. Rouse 44. Results were:— St. Albans in V. Teachers’ College With some good batting by B. Karst. J. Abernethy and M. Flynn and with H. Steere scoring with 60 not out. St. Albans made 100 A. Giles bowled extremely well and when Teachers’ College made 48 In reply, she contributed a well-compiled 22 • Steere did most of the bowling damage A noticeable feature . was the leniency shown by the pace bowler. J. Dickinson. who took four wickets for seven, against the Inexperienced Teachers’ College team. St. Albans won on the first Innings St. Albans n v. Beckenham A depleted St. Albans team did well to make 85 with J. Stead scoring 41 not out and J. Cockle betting confidently for 28. J. Loew again bowled well to take tour wickets for 31. Beckenham was all out for 116 with M, Healy and E. Dickson again making the most runs A medium pace attack was headed by J. Wataon and A. Colville, who took four wickets for 40 and three for 34 respectively. At stumps St. Albans was 38 lor one wicket. Beckenham won on the first innings. Western v. Mai Mo* P. Adair (31) and J. Witte (21) gave Western a fine start but only two other batsmen reached double figures. Ot the Mai Moa bowlers J. Edmonds was only partly successful. L. Motz lacked stability and direction and the best was B. Davis with four tor 44. Replying, Mai Moa made only 69 and poor understanding in running between wickets cost the side victory. A Rouse (44) was the top-scorer. There were good catches by L. Smith and excellent bowltag by Adair, who took four wickets for 20 off 18 overs. Western won on the first innings. Technical v. St. Albans I P. Moore (84 not out) and J. Goddard (53 not out) were both ta good form and were responsible for Technical's declaration at 162 for the loss of only one wicket. Set a difficult task, St. Albans was all out for 28. P. Moore (four for 15) and C. Moore (five for 13) were the best of the bowlers. Following on St. Albans did a little better ta making 79. C Randall hit hard for 34. P. Moore again took four wickets. Technical won by an innings and 55 runs.
