Tin boats of U did not finish after a high north-eart wind had blown most of them over or had made conditions too tough for the dispirited romainder who sailed home. Of the two boats which did finish legally, the lint was not a member oi tbe Christchurch club and was debarred from taking the prize—the Lake trophy. The other boat, the tan home, was declared th* winner of the trophy. Th* three offending skippers who were declared to have • mark ware all international Finn helmsmen—P. G. Mander and W. Beere (Christchurch club) and G. D. Hebron(Waimakariri). An k class dinghy wa* saved from disqualiftcation on the final run home with the other three when Hobson put about suddenly and could not extricate hlmaelt from the deft between boat and boom that he had sailed into. Beere took time out of his redoubtable opponent on th* first slog out pest Shag Rock to the see. but was himself overtaken off the wind. Beere. however, remained with the bow of hts boat nudging Mender’s wake for much of th* rest of the race, and although Mander croesed the finish line Aral—and waa puzzled why he wa* not accorded th* salute of the finish gun—Beere wa* stiU at hia heel*. In the’ R Oaas dinghy Freaco (B. E. Trdeaven andß. Marriott) the mast broke in two when Treleaven had th* craft on a vary fast spinnaker run past the South Brighton spit. Fresco wa* towed home. The first boat declared home legally wa* th* Mount Pleasant Junior Cherub. Tremolo, skippered by M. Robertson. Robertson waa given the gun train Msec ahead of the next boat. G. Oliver’* OK dinghy.
