CAR BRAKES FAIL

Driver Avoids Cliff Drop (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 12. A Lower Hutt woman and her U-year-old daughter were badly injured today when the brakes of their car failed about half way down the Paekakariki hill. The injured are Mrs V. Burroughs and her daughter. Marie Anne Burroughs. Mrs Burroughs swung the car into the bank above the road to avoid crashing down ‘he steep cliff on her left The accident occurred soon after 4 p.m, about one mile north of the peak of the hill. The Wellington free ambulance took them to hospital. Mrs Burroughs was treated for badly lacerated knees, probable fractured ribs and jaw and severe shock. Her daughter suffered possible fractured ribs, scalp lacerations and concussion.
