Japan is building a new rocket launching site on its Pacific Coast according to the United States magazine, “Missiles and Rockets.” The weekly technical journal had a centre-pege illustrated article on Japanese space efforts. It also said Japan “reportedly” had sold rockets to Jugoslavia. The article, by Barnard Poirier, said Japan was making advance in aolidpropellant rockets. He added: ’’Japanese rockets have outgrown their existing firing range la the See of Japen opposite the Soviet-Chinese coastline. A new test centre is being buUt on the Pacific coast for the new rockets. “The new rocket. Lambda, will considerably outperform its predecessor—Kappa 91, which reached a maximum attitude of 236 miles at a launching angle of S 3 degrees and later stemmed into the Japan See at a maximum range of 391 miles when launched at 78 degrees.” He added: “Lambda-1 should be ready for flight tests at the new Pacific location Kagoshtant space station—where completion of contraction is expected before the end of 1962.” Rayburn Weaker (N.Z. Death could be “hours away" for the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives (Mr Sam Raybum), his doctor said last night, the Associated Press reported. Mr Rayburn'S condition was critical He is suffering from inoperable cancer.
