Engineers Visit Tunnel
The Christchurch-Lyttel-ton road tunnel would be about 6300 ft long and the actual excavation would probably take about 18 months, the project manager (Mr J. G. Smith) told more than 30 members of the Canterbury branch of the Institution of Engineers w-hen they inspected the tunnel on Saturday. Mr Smith said it had originally been planned to complete the excavation before any lining was started, but now some concreting was planned for early next : year.
