LAST ART UNION

Plans For Time Of Sale (N Z. Press A ssoctation) AUCKLAND, Oct. 29. The last £lO,OOO art union to be held before the new £30,000 Golden Kiwi lottery opens on December 4 will probably be for a fortnight instead of the usual three weeks “to test our organisation for the major lottery,” the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr Gotz) said today. The current “Lucky Wish” Art Union closed yesterday. There will probably be two more art unions—a threeweekly and a fortnightly—before tickets for the new lottery are on sale. “We don't know how long it will take to sell all the tickets in the new lottery,” said Mr Gotz. “We hope to get to the stage when the tickets are solid by the Friday and the draw is made on the Tuesday, but it will probably be some time before we get that far. “The last short art union will test our organisation in getting the butts in quickly.” The draw for the lottery would be made Only after all the tickets have been sold. Arrangements would be made so that any books not completely sold in small centres would be brought to the main centres for sale, said Mr Gotz. This was to prevent the lottery being held up by slow-selling agents when others had sold out. “We may possibly have to put some smaller centres on a schedule system." he said This would mean that tickets would have to be applied for and not sold directly over the counter. Mr Gotz said the Government would take no action to stifle "’ew Zealanders from buying tickets in overseas lotteries once, the new lottery got under way. “We think our lottery will stand on its own feet.” he said. “The odds are better and the prizes are better.”
