ROYAL TOUR OF GHANA

Alexander’s Warning (N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, October 26. The former British chief of Ghana’s defence staff, Major-General Henry Alexander, delivered a sharp warning today about the Queen’s coining visit to Ghana. In an interview with the new British news magazine “Topic” he said: “The flood of often filthy invective against Great Britain is so persistent that I cannot see how the Queen can possibly visit the country while it continues.” Commenting on this, “Topic” said: "Yet he believes that such is the respect of Ghanians for the Queen that, if she does cancel her visit, it will mean the end of President Nkrumah.” The magazine quoted General Alexander as saying that the downfall of Presiden Nkrumah was inevitable, and “may Come next month or next year.” “Topic” said that Ghana once moderately well off was nearing financial disaster. The cost of living had gone up 60 per cent, since the last budget and President Nkrumah was “still pouring money into grandiose schemes.” The British United Press reported that Ghana’s plans for greeting and entertaining the Queen during next month’s Royal tour were already in full swing.
