DEPORTATION ORDERED
Ship Deserted In 1951 (NZ. Press Association) AUCKLAND, October 24. Anthony Frank Newman, v aged 30, a bridge-builder, appeared m the Magistrate’s Court at Auckland today to face a charge of deserting from ht* ship—the Port Dunedin—on November 25. 1951 Mr A A Coates. SM . ordered that Newman be deported from New Zealand in pursuance with the provisions of the Shipping and Seamen Act 1952 The Magistra e fined Newman £lO with costs and admitted him to bail to appear again next week. Newman's counsel. Mr P B. Tamm. said an application would be made for leave for Newman to remain in New Zealand He wag now married and bad seven dependent children—one of them from this marriaae and six from hi* wife’s previous marriage It depends on what we read, after all manner of professor* have done their best for us.—Thomas Carlyle.
