COMMANDING AS SALE
Estimate Of Value On the basis of prices paid in the United States for such horses as Round Table and Hillsdale, the New Zealand champion three - year - old Commanding would be worth 300,000 dollars, according to Mr C. Spilstead, the manager of the boxer J. Smith, at present on a campaign of New Zealand. In addition to managing his boxers, Mr Spilstead takes a close interest in racing. He saw Commanding win the Great Northern Guineas. “Mr G. Walton (owner of Commanding) told me he would be interested in sei* ling a half-share only in the horse.” said Mr Spilstead. "I reckon that would be worth 150,000 dollars.” Mr Spilstead has since, written to Mr R. Nash, a close friend, who is publicity director of Santa Anita race track in California, expressing his high opinion of Commanding. He thinks it very possible that, as a consequence, Mr Walton will be invited to have his horse compete at Santa Anita. “I am certain that even at 150.000 dollars there would be many Californian trainers who would have no trouble in finding a buyer of a halfshare of the horse,” said Mr Spilstead.
