TOPDRESSINC PILOTS

Course At Lincoln College A chemical rating course for topdreasing pilots will end today at Canterbury Agricultural College. Lincoln. The aim of the course is to enable pilots to get their chemical rating certificates, compulsory for topdressing work since last year. The pilots learn the pitfalls of spraying chemicals under cer. tain conditions, so that they can make their own decisions as to when it is safe to do so. Formerly, they had to obtain a permit tor each job. The course supervisor is Mr R. T. Chisholm, the field education officer of the Civil Aviation Administration. Wellington. Associated with him are Mr K. Cottier, of the Department of Agriculture. Wellington, and Dr. F. A. de Hamel. Deputy . Medical Officer of Health. Christchurch. Lecturers have been provided by various Government departments and private firms. The lectures finished yesterday morning, and a written examination was held during the afternoon. Today will be occupied with oral examinations. Eighteen pilots are taking the course.
