Subandrio And Rusk Meet
(N.Z.P.A .-Renter— Copyright) WASHINGTON, Oct. 11. The Indonesian Foreign Minister (Dr. Subandrio) assured toe United State* Secretary of State (Mr Rusk) at a private meeting today that Indone*ia wanted normal relation* with the Netherlands. But after the meeting Dr. Subandrio told reporter* that relations between the two countries could only be normal if Netherlands West New Guinea—" West Irian”—was ultimately to become part of Indonesia. Dr. Subandrio said hte government was Marching for "ways and mean*” to solve the problem ot West New Guinea. He spoke to reporters after a 40-minute meeting with Mr Rusk at the State Department, whitfh he said was devoted to the Wasi New Guinea question. Replying to questions, Dr. Subandrio said that “with the possibility of the Netherlands now relinquishing sovereignty over West Irian” relation* between Indonesia and the Netherlands might be normalised provided that West .New Guinea should “ultimately” form part of Indonesian territory.
