RACING OWNER’S DECISION FOR GUINEAS

Commanding Likely To Carry Walton Colours

No decision will be announced until today, but the Otaki owner, Mr G. S. Walton, might play it safe by, starting Commanding, not Castlerae, in the Wellington Guineas to* morrow. Mr Walton rates Commanding a good bit better than Castlerae, and the Wellington Guineas is such an attractive prize that he might not be prepared to run a greater risk of defeat by making Castlerae his colour-bearer.

Commanding had his first Guineas test last week, when he won the Great Northern Guineas. Castlerae has already won two Guineas races—those at Wingatui and Hastings. Commanding has been only once beaten in New Zealand, and there will be no greater individual attraction on the programme if it is decided to start him.

Hopes tor a South Island victory wil brighten if Castlerae starts. Burgos ran Osatlerae close in one of the handicap two-year-old races at the last Wellington Cup meeting, and with an ounce of luck he would have beaten the Otaki colt. Kingdom and Gold View are selected to win the double, winch is oa the Wellington and Shorts Handicap*. Gold View was outstanding over sprint diMances last season. She twice equalled the Wingstni record for six furlongs, and in one of those races Mie easily beat Page Boy, one of her rivals again tomorrow.
