Little River Railway

(Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, Oct. 12. A request that the Government should postpone closing the Little River railway until June 30 was made in the House of Representatives this afternoon by Mr N. E. Kirk (Opposition, Lyttelton). Mr Kirk asked the Minister of Railways (Mr McAlpine) whether, in order to minimise the dislocation of transport resulting from the Government’s decision to close the line, he would not do so until June 30 instead of March 31. This would enable rail users, including cheese factories, to finish the season before changing to road transport.
