HOME-MADE FIREWORKS
Warning Given Parents
(NZ. Press Association) AUCKLAND, October 12. Chief Inspector H. A. Hay, the father of a 15-year-old schoolboy, now in hospital with injuries received from a home-made bomb, today issued a warning to parents about the dangers of homemade fireworks. “Trying to make these things is just asking for trouble. When my boy’s bicycle-pump bomb exploded last night, he received serious stomach wounds. Make sure the same, or worse, doesn’t happen to your son,” Mr Hay said. The boy, Earl, was rushed to Auckland Hospital last night after the bomb he was making exploded in the basement of his home. He received an emergency blood transfusion, then underwent an operation to have several small fragments of the shattered bicycle pump removed from his stomach. His condition today was fairly satisfactory.
