SEA CADETS’ CAMP
Experiment At Ripa Island
Ripa Island is to be tried as a site for annual camps by Sea Cadet Corps units. Early in January, 65 boys will live on the island for eight days’ training. If the site proves successful the Royal New Zealand Navy may consider adding more permanent facilities to the existing buildings. This will be the first time the island has been used for a Dominion-wide camp. More beds, kitchen facilities, and extras are to be added with equipment from Navy stores at Auckland and Cass Bay. Normally Ripa Island has been used as a summer camp for boys of the Canterbury Sea. Cadet Corps units. It has also been used for training on public holidays. The camps are sponsored by the Navy League.
