The Apostolic Delegate to Australia, New Zealand and Oceania, Archbishop Maximilian de Furstenberg, made an official call on the Governor-General (Lord Cobham) yesterday.—(P.A.)
Commander R. M. J. O’Connor, RN.Z.N.V.R., Major R. D. Yetton, New Zealand Regiment, and Wing Commander M. S. Gunton. R.N.ZA.F, all of Christchurch, have been appointed honorary aides-de-mp to the Governor-Gen-eral. Wing Commander I. D. Gebbie, also of Christchurch, has been appointed honorary surgeon.
Mr F. Corner, Deputy Secretary of the Department of External Affairs, who will be permanent New Zealand representative to the United Nations, will leave New Zealand for New York today.— (P.A.) Air Marshal Mohammed Afghar Khan. Chief of the Air Staff of the Royal Pakis-’ tan Air Force and Pakistan's military adviser to 5.E.A.T.0.. will visit New Zealand later this month to have talks with the Minister of Defence, the Air Board and the Chiefs of Staffs Committee.—(P.A.) A motion of sympathy with Dr. G. Jobberns in the death of his wife, was carried at a meeting of the North Canterbury Catchment Board yesterday. Dr. Jobberns is chairman of the board’s finance committee.
Mr L. E. Steadman, deputy senior overseer of the construction and maintenance branch of the Christchurch Post Office, has been appointed superintending overseer of the same branch in Dunedin.
Mr D. F. Sugrue has been appointed a member of the board of trustees of the Geraldine racecourse. He replaces Mr W. C. Crotty, who has resigned.
Messrs J. R. Talbot and S. J. Emerre have been elected to the Tobacco Board as growers’ representatives.
