PLUNKET BALL
Lord Cobham To Attend
Rians for a Plunket Ball to be held at the Winter Garden on November 4, with the Governor-General (Lord Cobham) and Lady Cobham present, were made at a recent meeting of the Christchurch branch of the Plunket Society.
This will be the first time a Plunket ball will be honoured by Vice-Regal patronage in Christchurch, says a report from the meeting. It will be a formal dress ball, not a fancy dress cabaret as in the past. A committee of prominent businessmen will organise the ball. The president (Mrs A. Rose) expressed her thanks to all who had helped the society on Violet Day, when £1670 was raised.
Arrangements were made for a “Pied Piper” show to be held at the Civic Theatre soon, with proceeds for Karitane Hospital. • Congratulations were extended to Mr C. S. Bowie on his appointment as Town Clerk. The resignation of Mrs H. C. Collett from the committee was received with much regret,
The charge sister’s report for the month was: number of new baby cases, 347; number of visits to babies in homes, 2232; number of visits of babies to rooms, 2912; total mileage incurred for home visiting, 2530 miles. The matron of Karitane Hospital reported as follows: number of mothers admitted 17, babies 41; number of mothers discharged 19, babies 44: number of premature babies admitted 10, discharged 10; number of twins admitted 3 sets.
