DISPLAY AT BENMORE
Postponed Event To Be Held Tomorrow (From Our Oum Reporter) OAMARU. October « The huge machinery display, postponed a fortnight ago because of adverse conditions, is to be staged on Sunday at Benmore, wet or fine. A fortnight ago the postponed display attracted some 8000 persons who had commenced their journey before a decision was reached on the postponement It is anticipated that upwards of 15,000 will attend to-morrow's event
Apart from the display of the machinery used on the project both static and in operation, many features are planned. One of the most interesting is likely to be the giant tyre-changing contest between teams representing Roadways (N.Z.), Ltd., and the Ministry of Works. In the first contest Roadways beat Ministry of Works, handling a 14001 b tyre in 9min 35.25ec.
Machinery Worth Ban Machinery valued around the Elm mark will be shown in the display, while other machinery to be seen on the project when conducted bus tours are held will take the total to about £2m.
The Minister of Electricity (Mr Goosman) is to open the display at 1.30 p.m., while the Minister of Agriculture (Mr Hayman) and Mrs Hayman, will also attend. To eater for the sightseers, 25 aircraft will operate from the newly-constructed airstrip at the hydro village township of Otematata.
Bus Bookings Heavy At least 18 New Zealand Railways Road Services buses will take sightseers to the Benmore machinery display on Sunday. Bookings in Christchurch have filled five buses, each holding 30 passengers. It is expected bookings will fill a sixth bus.
Other buses will go from Oamaru, Timaru, and Dunedin. About five buses have been booked to travel from Dunedin.
