RACING Subside And Mon Roi For Reefton Double
The Omoto-trained Subside and Mon Roi, from Oamaru, might be the successful combination for the double at the Reefton Jockey Club’s spring meeting today. The double will operate on the County and Springs Hack Handicaps.
Subside started a fresh and highly successful campaign at Westport last week-end. She was the runner-uip to Matauwhi over 10 furlongs on the first day and created a new track record to win against the open milers last Monday. If she has held that form an additional 150 yards today is unlikely to cause her defeat. South Canterbury stables will he represented in the
County Handicap by Ocean Melody and Korallion. The latter, one of the lightweights in the field, will need soft ground to give his best, but the track at Reefton is reported to be in excellent order and that will be very much to Ocean Melody's liking. Gaytana, from Riccai-ton could be the most likely improver. She has matched and beaten stronger fields than this when at her peak. Her fourth at Westport last Monday left the impression that she had benefited from two earlier races on a new campaign. Mon Roi will be trying for his second successive win on the circuit in the Reefton Hack Handicap. The best of the other, staying hacks in this event are expected to be Munster King and Master Conclusion. There were some light showers in Reefton yesterday morning before brilliant sunshine. The weather throughout the week in the district has been mainly fine. Fields are:— BLACK’S POINT NOVICE STAKES, of £145; five furlongs.—Llantana (10) 10-2; Bert (1).
