Cocktail Party Reception

On their first official visit to Christchurch the Japanese Ambassador to New Zealand (Mr Kaoru Hara) and Mrs Hara gave a reception at “Heatherlea" last evening. It took the form of a cocktail party, with a lavish buffet supper. About 100 attended. . Mrs Hara wore a kimono threaded with silver hirex and featuring gold and deep blue motifs of Oriental design. The soft blue colour was offset by a dramatic obi, with bold blue and gold flowers on a black background. Specially-invited guests included members of the Christchurch City Council; representatives of consular agencies in Christchurch: members of Parliament resident in Christchurch; prominent city businessmen and their wives: representatives of local organisations; members of the Japan Society of Canterbury; church leaden, judges of the Supreme Court, and university representatives.
