REFUSAL OF ENTRY

University’s Staff Protest (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) ADELAIDE, October 2. The Adelaide University Staff Association will protest to the Prime Minister (Mr Menzies*, the Leader of the Federal Opposition (Mr CaL well) and the Minister for Immigration (Mr Downer) over the refusal of an entry visa for Mr Y. S. Brenner. At a meeting today, the association announced it would protest strongly against Mr Downer’s "publicly unsubstantiated and inaccurate statements” about Mr Brenner’s appointment to the university staff. Mr Brenner had been appointed as a lecturer in economic history at Adelaide University, but was refused an entry visa into Australia. The association announced that it had decided at the meeting to ask the university council to pay Mr Brenner “an appropirate salary” for the time being. About half of the university's 300 staff members attended. A separate petition appealing against the decision to refuse Mr Brenner’s entry is to be sent to Mr Downer by economic history students at the university.
