(NZ. Press Association) WELLINGTON, October 3. Mr J. G. Edwards (Opposition, Napier) asked the Minister of ' ocial Security (Mr Shelton) in the House of Representatives today whether he could indicate the estimated cost .to the Social Security Fund of the increased pay-out from the special assistance fund to enable pensioners to meet their obligations under the amendment to the Tenancy Act. Mr W. W. Freer (Opposition, Mt. Albert) asked the Minister in charge of the State -Advances Corporation (Mr Rae) to explain how the Minister or the corporation could justify increasing rents for pensioners who had a relative or friend boarding with them for company, and where the net income to keep two people was less than that which the corporation accepted for a single pensioner without any increase in rent Mr Freer asked the Minister whether he xvas aware that many people in this category would be unable to continue their present tenancies, and. if so. whether this was a deliberate policy to force many pensioners to vacate the State rental homes tfiey ha<j occupied for years.
