TALKS WITH ADENAUER
Proposal For Coalition
(N.Z. Prill Ann.—Copyright) BONN, Oct. 3.
The West German Chancellor (Dr. Konrad Adenauer) will start talks today with Mr Erich Mende, leader at the Free Democratic Party, on the formation at a coalition government. Dr. Adenauer’s Christian Democratic Party lost its absolu’e majority in the recent election, but the Free Democratic Party’s 86 seat* would make up a coalition majority. Mr Mende at first demanded the stepping down of Dr. Adenauer as Chancellor as a condition to the formation of a coalition, the British United Press reported. He has since withdrawn his demand. The Associated Press reported that the Christian Democrats and the rightwing Free Democrats each captured one additional seat in the Bonn Parliament yesterday when voters in the Rhineland constituency of Cochem went to the polls three weeks after the Gen-’ eral Election.
The district did not vote in the national balloting because the Socialist candidate died in the middle of the campaign and his party had requested additional time tor their new candidate.
