Church Music

Today, in the University Hall at 1.10 pm., the University Church Music Group, conducted by Mr H. N. Bindley, will sing the fourpart Mass and the motet, "Justorum, Animae,” by William Byrd, also “O Praise God in His Holiness,” by Robert Whyte, another distinguished member of the great English school of polyphonic composer* in the sixteenth century. On Thursday, again at 1.10 pm. in the University Hall, the Dorian Club (president, Miss Irene Larsen) will give it* eighth concert for the university’* music department. The group was established about 20 years ago. Thursday's programme includes shorter keyboard works by Bach, York, Bowen, Chopin, Debussy, Mendelssohn, Rachmaninov. Scarlatti and Schumann.

The final two concerts of the 1901 series in the University Hall will take place at 1,10 pm. on Tuesday, October 10. and Thursday, October 12. At the first, Vincent Aspey, leader of the National Orchestra, will be associated with Maurice Till in Beethoven’s Violin Sonata in C minor and the Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso by Saint-Saens. The Christchurch Wind Quintet (Trevor Hutton, Jack Goldsmith, Michael Shorter, William Turner and Ross McKcith) will provide the programme on October 12. Admission is free to all these concerts, which aim to allow listeners to hear music not frequently performed on the concert platform.
