FOOTBALL POOLS
“Inevitable” For N.Z.
Football pools are inevitable in New Zealand, In the opinion of member of the New Zealand Football Association council, Mr O. Hilton. He Mid that although he appreciated the view of the Minister of -Internal Affairs (Mr Gotz) that the present was not * good time to examine the idee with the new Art Union beginning, he felt the pools Must come to New Zealand because of the amount of money being sent overseas.
There was an increase tn the year of 210,000 postal order transactions on the previous year. The number of British postal order* was increasing.
“I estimate that half the money sent in British postal orders is for pools,” said Mr HUton.
The N.Z.F.A. had not suggested the pools to be run for the benefit only of Soccer. All amateur sport should benefit, he said.
