TROTTING Jay Ar Should Make Amends At Hutt Park

Jay Ar should gain his first win for the season in the R. A. Armstrong Memorial Handicap, the main race and first leg of the double on the second night of the Wellington Trotting Club’s meeting at Hutt Parle Raceway tomorrow. Jay Ar had little in his favour in die President's - Handicap on Saturday night and came with a determined run in die straight to beat all but Master Alan. Jay Ar has raced well in the past at Hutt Park and with a reasonable run tomorrow, he should just about win.

Most opposition to Jay Ar eould come from C S. Donald's bracket of Falsehood and Ballista. Falsehood gained a stylish win in the Good Night Handicap, run over 10 furlongs on Saturday. A feature of his win was his «>lendid beginning He forced most of the pace and won with something in hand. Falsehood should appreciate the middle distance in this raee, and if he makes the same good beginning from 12 yards, should be difficult to beat Ballista was forced over considerable extra ground on Saturday night and it was not surprising that he wilted in the run home. He will need plenty of luck to win this race, but given a run which does not force him too wide, could be close up. Slick Chick was third in his two races at Hutt Park on Saturday. In both races he finished strongly after being late working clear and then racing fairly wide. Slick Chick is in fine form at present and is due for a win.

Orient Night was always in trouble in the 12-furlong race on Saturday and later in the night came home boldly to beat all but Falsehood in the Good Night Handicap. Orient Night looks to be right back to her best at present and could easily unset calculations in this field. Dark Wonder is an interesting newcomer to this class. He won handily over 10 furlongs on Saturday. His ability to begin smartly and hold a handy position should ensure that be is close up throughout, He should be capable of a smart mile and a halt Master Alan is now un-

beaten in bis last two starts. He received a charmed run on Saturday when he won. but will not find it go easy from 12 yards this time. However, with a reasonable run. he could be prominent Major Star and Medium Blue should do best of the others, but will find it hard to catch Jay Ar. May Make Amends Front Line will be a firm favourite to win the second leg of the double, the Otaki Handicap, which has drawn a strong field of improving trotters. Front Line was nosed out of first place right on the line by Ahumai in the Flying Sportsmen Handicap on Saturday. The brother to Battle Cry is a grand trotter and with a reasonable run, should just about win. John Scott is now unbeaten in his three starts this season. This will be his most serious test to date, but but he could well prove to be up to this class. His win on Saturday was full of merit. He missed the start and lost a bik stretch. He was still giving Van Ardee a start of about 24 yards at the half-mile and showed gameness in a hard finish. Min Scott was a costly failure on Saturday. She broke badly at the start and made up a lot of ground for sixth. Her lapse at the start on Saturday was the first she had made in a race. If she trots solidly throughout, she should finish in the money. Safety Catch trotted a grand race from 24 yards to finish third in a nose-end-heed finish on Saturday. That was his first race for some months and he should show

improvement Wairau King made a fresh start at Hutt Park and finished third and fourth in hla two starts. He should be a better bone tomorrow night and could upset calculations Ahumai’s strong finishing run to win on Saturday was most impressive. She has been penalised 12 yards for thit win and Wuld easily repeat that effort. She is most reliable and is usually handy throughout her races. t

Fiammetta is a newcomer to the meeting. She trotted a sound race and finished boldly for fifth at Ashburton in the race won by Resistor on Saturday. Fiammetta has been a winner at Hutt Park in the past and must be considered Fine weather is forecast and the track should again be in splendid order. Acceptances;—
