Roberts Trophy Won By St. Andrew’s Cadets
The Earl Roberts Imperial Cadet Trophy for cadet marksmen has come to New Zealand for the first time since the competition was begun in 1907. A St. Andrew’s College team won the trophy with 317 points out of a possible 320 in competition with 55 cadet units throughout the Commonwealth. An English team—the cadet battalion of the East Surrey Regiment—was second with 312 points, and their score was equalled by a team from the cadet unit of Buckingham, Quebec, Canada. A Christ's College team was fourth with 311 points. Hawera Technical School’s team was the next best New Zealand team with 275 points, fifteenth.
Possibles of 80 were scored by three of the Christchurch boys—Warrant Officer I R. G. Thompson and Warrant Officer I A. G. Ansell, both of St. Andrew’s, and Sergeant Major R. M. Edmond, of Christ’s College. They will sharq the cadet champion
rifle belt, awarded to the best New Zealand shot in the trophy competition. Each of the three will hold the belt for a school term. The other members of the St. Andrew’s College team were Lance Corporal J. W. K. Anderson and Sergeant D. G. Clark, with Sergeant R. G. Rose as fire director. The trophy, bronze medals for each member of the winning team, and the rifle belt, will be presented by Brigadier A. H. Andrews, commanding officer of Southern Military District, at a full battalion parade at St. Andrew's College on Thursday morning.
