Decrease During c September

Customs dues collected at Christchurch last month decreased by £53,225 compared with September, 1860, but the total revenue collected in the six months from April 1,1361, was £489,670 more than in the same six months in 1960. The September, 1961, figures, with those for 1960 in parenthesis, are:—Customs and excise, £556,090 (£557,775); petrol tax, £17k640 (£182,493); tyres, £728 (£738); sales tax. £167,061 (£2084116); light dues, £2044 (£1372);' miscellaneous. £1352 (£1546). Total. £898,915 (£952,140). The figures ’ for the six months from April 1, 1961, with those for 1960 in paren-‘hesis,-are:—Customs and excise, £3,588,196 (£3,293.503); petrol tax, £1,095.148 (£993,770); tyres, £1914 (£3661); sales tax, t 1,247.589 (£1,152,902); light dues. £8045 (£7174); miscellaneous, £13,046 (£13,253). Total, £5,953,938 (£5,464,268). AUCKLAND Total Customs collections at Auckland during September. amounted to £2,752,050 compared with £2,838,618 a year ago, a tall of £86,568. This total included Customs dues, £86,432 lower at £1,255.949, and sales tax down by £88,989 at £466,209. Petrol tax amounted to £496.792, an increase of £34,446 from the total a year ago. Collections tor the nine months to September 30 totalled £20397,017, a rise of £2.248,080. The largest increase was under Customs dues, which rose from £10,930,830 to £12.232,066. WELLINGTON Revenue collected by the Custom. Department in Wellington September totalled, compared with i £3.003.373 in September last I year.
