UPTURN IN AUSTRALIA
Output Rises In August
Production ta many sectors of Australian industry show-ed-an upswing in August, compared with July, according to figures issued by the Commonwealth Statistician, Mr S. R. Carver.
But, except for basic heavy materials, output in most industries was still well below that for* August, 1900. Ihe figures include:— Gar bodies: 14,500 (13,500 in July and 25.100 in August, 1960)., ” Refrigerators: 17,600 ’(11.500; 25,200). Trievfsiea sets: 24,100 (28,500; 50,400). Pig Iron: 291,000 tons (293,000; 252,000). Ingot steel: 340,000 ions (352,000; 332,000). Cement: 249,000 tons (239,000; 244,000). Cotton yarn: 3.1 million lb (2.7 m 47m). Rayon cloth: 1.7 m square yards (1.5 m 1.8 m). Beer: 19.1 m gallons (17.3 m 20.4 m). • Tobacco: 5.3 m lb (4.4 m 5.9 m).
