The average cost of social I security medical prescriptions paid by the Health Department in the Christ- | church pricing district last month was again a record,) although only by a fraction of a penny. The average cost in September was 10s 0.542 d, compared with 10s 0.32 M in August The average cost in September, 1900, wan 8s 9.685 d. The total cost of prescriptions last month was £101,097 4s 4d, compared with £142,445 18s 3d in August and £107,313 15s 7d in September, 1960. The numbers of prescriptions paid were: 196,545 last month; 279.028 in August; and 239,181 in September last • year. Ttfe fall in the number paid last month, as compared with August, does not necessarily reflect any drop in the number of prescriptions issued by doctors, being more dependent on the time the, pricing department has available for dealing with the scripts sent in for payment.
